Getting ready for the session to start in Jan

It's time now to contact your General Assembly lawmakers and ask them to support good laws for voters. Our legislators are making decisions now. Follow this Step By Step Guide.

1   Find your state legislators

  • Click here for the Virginia legislature's contact information service. Enter your address in the box.
  • Save or write down the contact info for your state (not U.S.) senator and delegate that appears at the end of the page.

2  Click here to review Key Voting Priorities and Talking Points.  You will ask your legislators to pass them into law. Bill numbers are provided where already known. We encourage you to use your own words. We recommend this schedule: contact your lawmakers supporting the first two priorities today, the next two priorities tomorrow, two more on Monday, and the last two on Tuesday.

3  Call, write, or email your state senator and state delegate.*

  • Tell them your name, your zip code, and that you are a constituent.
  • Tell them about the priorities and ask them to pass them.
  • Feel free to add talking points or a brief story about why this legislation would have made a difference for you or someone you know.
  • Urge the lawmaker to sponsor and vote for these priorities and ask if they will.
  • *Remember that members do not represent the League, only the president does that.

4  Check out our Virginia Town Halls tracker at bit.ly/VATownHalls.

  • If your legislators hold town halls, attend and ask if they will sponsor and vote for your priorities.

5  Log your action!

  • Each time you contact your state delegate and senator, go here to log your action. You can contact them every day or every week.
  • Bookmark the new Advocacy Challenge link, bit.ly/LWVVAChallenge.
6   Feel good about making a difference for voters.
